Yes. The National Chamber of Civil Law Notaries has created and implemented, pursuant to its directive of 11 October 2011, a Notarial Register of Wills (NORT). The registration of the will is not compulsory and should be left to the testator.
Registering a will at NORT helps to increase the chances of the will being traced after the testator’s death, thereby enabling a succession procedure to be initiated before the courts or a civil law notary.

At the current time there is no registration charge.
On the death of the testator, anyone in possession of documentary proof of the testator’s death may search the register via a notary. The search for the will in the register is only made at the request of the person concerned, e.g. the legal heir.
At the current time there is no charge for a register search. However, notaries receive a fee for activities resulting in the issuance of notarial documents, including searching for wills. The maximum amount of this fee is €50, but in practice it is generally half that amount.
