When the existence of a notarial will has been established, who has to be contacted to obtain information about its content?

To obtain information about the content of a will, you should contact the notary who authenticated it or the notary handling the succession.

Who is entitled to receive the information?

Information relating to the will is strictly confidential.

The information contained in the will, or a certified copy thereof can be communicated to public authorities, lawyers in charge of estate administration, regardless of where they operate, and to any person allowed to view the contents of the will, in conformity with the current legislation.

Is there a particular procedure to be followed? If so, which one?

Yes, this procedure is laid down by law and depend on whether or not the succession has been opened. Following the testator’s death, if an heir is mentioned in the will, the notary will personally communicate its content to that heir.

By what means can the information be sent?

Any official response regarding a will must be made exclusively in writing, on paper and submitted in person, through an authorized representative or by post.
